The box is made of pine and features a lift up lid which opens to reveal an internal metal cutter set over a pierced base. To the bottom of the box is a shallow drawer, designed to catch the sugar which has been cut from a sugar loaf in the compartment above. The metal blade is stamped with L. G. Wibell, Eskilstuna. Nice shelves. Install was super easy except on one of the three shelves. The main mounting shelf holes were off so the shelf will not slip onto horizontal mounting poles unless I modify the shelf. So a 20 minute job becomes a two hour job. The mounting system does appear very sturdy just not aligned.
